I joined Arkham on Friday and would be very interested in SBG and WotR. I have WotR 1000 points and a bit more of Gondor with Rohan allies. My friend and i have been playing since the first movie came out. He has just over the 1000 for Isengard Wotr. But with lots of other SBG warbands we could add several more allies if need be.

I was at the fantasy day in July and enjoyed a massive battle with weeivor and another bloke with his son. (At my age i'm not great at remembering names.)

My plan is to get up at least once a month from now on. (Hopefully twice a month).

If anything WotR is planned i would like to be involved.

I am also just finishing off a model of Helm's Deep. Not the GW one. I will post some pics in the gallery section to show work in progress.

well im looking into getting some sort of learners programme as such goin as i myself wish to learn the SBG so keep a look out and hopefully in the near future we will have something sorted.

now im looking at starting with the SBG side then progessing to the WOTR expansion. just to give people the chance to get to grips with the basic rules etc. although shud peole wish to dive straight into WOTR then that can be arranged.

opinions please?

cheers

SBG is a good way for new players to get into the game if they are going to buy figures. It can start small with a dozen figures per side. More if you use goblins, but they can be recycled back into the game as the heroes kill them off. It is a lovely skirmish game and rewards good play and tactical moves and strategies. Certainly i have enough figures for many SBG scenarios and some custom built scenery. Weathertop and Amon Hen. If people build up warbands then they can easily add some heroes etc. to make up 500 or even 1000 points for WotR. Count me in. Pity the Hobbit isn't coming out soon as it would make a lovely excuse for a theme day. But hey! Do we really need an excuse?

I have bits and pieces of everything, i have all the stuff from the Fellowship and Two Towers rules box sets plus some orcs and wargs etc.

If there was some sort of escalation style league set up would that help players get into it? start off with smaller SBG forces and as the league progresses the points increase until the last number of games are WOTR? Just a thought

I would REALLY love a themed Dol Amroth army, so if people were wanting to play i would certainly join in and get some minis to play with and build up a force of the Knights of the Swan- appropriately themed according to Tolkiens works, as opposed to the sometimes dodgy background material GW can produce on lesser-known realms

Right this is getting me all fired up. I will commit to organising a SBG warband builder league. My proposal is to commit one session per month from January 2011 to December 2011. (Either a Wednesday or Friday evening or a Saturday afternoon. Whichever has the most numbers) Starting with 250 points in January and adding 250 points each month. By June then we should all have 1500 points of painted figures. By this point we should each have enough for WotR battles.

I have the first three books from the boxed rulesets. I would propose to take scenarios from these that are roughly 250 points in January, 500 in February and so on. Using all 3 will allow for a spread of warbands to be collected from the start.

The onus on each player will be to provide the necessary painted figures each month (Bought or borrowed but definitely not stolen!). Figures they already have are fine, paint up some more from the metal mountains and plastic piles OR even start buying, building and painting from scratch. Whatever route you choose is fine. Proxies will also be quite acceptable e.g. Huns or Celts for Rohan; Romans, East or West, for Gondor; Saracens and Arabs for Haradrim; Zulus (without rifles) for Far Harad; Mongols or Chinese for Easterlings. As the bulk will be GW LotR figures anything that looks good standing alongside them will be grand. I'm thinking of my Warlord Games Romans and Celts.

I will be up at Arkham, weather allowing, Friday the 10th in the evening. Anyone interested stop by and see me.

This ^^

Is exactly what i had in mind. WOuld allow us all to get used to rules and build up to the point where there is a strong WOTR presence in Arkham

I would certainly be interested, if there is anything needed to help or organise just give me a shout, otherwise count me in as a participent
