League of Grudge!

Okay Guys, I've bee thinking how to get the league kicked off and some ground rules to set to keep the element of competition, without being too heavy.

So here's my thoughts...

Friendly Matches
Play as many friendly matches as you like against whom ever you like. These will be recorded and used as a tie-breaker. However, the player with the lowest number of friendly wins will be dertmined the winner in the case of a tie... it doesn't pay to be too friendly.

League Matches
These are your basic matches. You can play as many as you like in a week, but you need to tell an "invigilator" (i.e. Phil, Jamie, me... the dog) that the match you're going to play is going to count!. As above, you can play as many as you like, the only limit is you can't play the same opponent at a league game twice in a row in the same week, but you could play 3 league games agasint 3 different opponents on the same night.

Wins get you 3 points, loses get you 1 point. So you always get something for playing a league match, even if you loose.

Grudge Matches
These are direct challenges. You can directly challenge any player to a Grudge Match... even if you have already played them at a league game that week. Your opponent doesn't need to accept, but if they want to scrape some points back, then a Grudge Match is the way to do it.

Grudge matches are worth 4 points to the winner and 0 (zero) to the loser.

You can only play one Grudge Match against a particular player each week. So in effect, you could play a league game (win or lose) against a particular player, then play a Grudge Match against the same player that night, before you need to look for another opponent that week.

I think there's enough competition to make things interesting, but there are tactical ways to play the league to build up points more quickly, if you don't play as many games (i.e. issue Grudge challenges like mad to anyone with a warmachine/hordes force, who is in the league, at the club on the night you're up!).

So, put your thoughts below. We'll launch the league on a Monday... say this Monday (08/11/10)... but people can add their names to the list over the course of that week and anyone interested who is at the club, tell Phil or Jamie and they can add your name for you.

I'll keep the results as updated as possible, but if everyone keeps a note of their own games until I get them updated that would help.

I'm up for it, what are we doing about factions and points etc

For the league think we should stick with same faction but maybe friendlies use any faction you like? What do u reckon, and I suppose points value whatever you and opponent decides?

Well, let's face it, changing for each match only suits those with bigger collections... we don't want to get into "cash-hammer" territory.

I would go with pick a faction and use anything for friendly matches.

Phil might be an idea to move this into campaigns/tourney section will get a lot more traffic

As is with warmachine/hordes. I am interested.
