aye, at the mo were not being tight and saying oh no you cant use that here, get along you naughty chappy you!!!, so dig out the cards and see what you can do. weve found that the older cards can hold their own, quite well, but once you get the grip of the newer artifiact equipment cards.......oh my
Sounds good the intro decks still a bit basic so I can fill it out with older cards for now! Some of the older forest creatures have brilliant stats for the land cost and the mountain cards have a lot of nice direct damage cards.
Are boosters still the best way to expand my collection?

Re: [MTG] April 'Friendly' Ladder
okay quick answer for that.
the old cards are a little cheaper in some respects and do have good use and merit. however they are not fully able to cope with the complexity of some modern cards. Artifacts in particular are much more refined now and more directly dangerous to you. three artifacts can quickly turn a 1/1 critter into a 6/4 flying critter with infect - dead u r in three turns from it alone. - so i would say if you have a prefered color go pre built deck, and maybe a couple of boosters. if you have no color in mind, just go boosters, though nothing wrong with a deck as it will get u a wad of cards and of course land. the tourny decks are supposed to be loaded with killer cards, and a life counter - which is just nice.
but just like a wargame, you have to be able to adapt your army for different foes. so having more options for your decks is always gonna be good.

Agreed. I have a string of one-trick pony decks ... finding it tough as my record shows

Thanks for the advice Andy, bought a pre built intro deck, it's good but there's nothing really amazing in it, might have been better with one of the event decks! But I guess I'll buy a few boosters and see what cards I get.

Some trade going on between players too, well worth having a think about what you're looking for and scouting out what people have to offer.

a pre built takes one worry away - will it work? yes! okay nothing exciting - well now while 12/12 artifact creatures are nice, or getting three mythic rares is cool, you will soon find that the balance of a game can fall on the last 1/1 critter you got out lol. so dont think a deck has to glow to wow....(like that)
couple of boosters and your landed. and a few games you will soon start to see how some things work well in a deck and others dont. ive been overloading my past couple of decks, so they work really well or DIE, and sadly die is easier than getting the right cards when you needed em, if you have gone too fancy.
starting out dont look for too many tricks, go simple. critters that can take hits for you, few flyers, any cheap critters with a useful trick - give you mana, direct damage, unblockable. spells that give you life, take opponents life, kill his critters or make yours stronger. get fancy when you get confident with what your doing. but again, its a game you dont mind losing when the deck you face impresses you.

Need Jamie to jump dander in with sage like advice. Possibly wearing flowing robes to match his 'Dude-like' flowing locks. The answers to all of life's mysteries lie under his beard, don't ya know.

Yeah I expect to get my ass handed to me at the start until I see what works and what doesn't! Though I did buy the forest mountain deck on the advice of the guru Jamie himself! Hoping to be up either Monday or Wednesday for a few games looking forward to getting stuck in, just hope I don't get too addicted to buying the boosters!
And see that cards perfect it's a forest type so it even fits in with my deck! Can I claim a 100% win/loss ratio if I haven't played a game yet ?

No... unfortunately your win % is at zero until you play

Gary check the tables, you have a total of 25 games played? Shouldn't it always be an even number? Or has there been a threesome?

Re: [MTG] April 'Friendly' Ladder
I played one match tonight, against Gary Gardiner. GaryG hard real mana draught issues I was very much the contrary with plenty of land card flying around. Strange because last week with essentially the same deck I couldn't get a land card onto the table. Funny old game.
GaryB 3 : GaryG 0
thanks

Re: [MTG] April 'Friendly' Ladder
Had 3 games with Justin tonight, unfortunately I won the 2 practice games and lost the 1 official game we played, still was good fun and I'm rejigging my deck a bit with the small collection I currently have, really tempted by a deck builder kit, seen one on ebay for £16.50 with free delivery, seems like a bargin for all thats in it,.
