Hello folks, I did get permission to do this. :) I was up at Arkham for the Demands of the Deep LARP and was very impressed with the stuff and people you have there, so thought this might be of interest to some.

We're running a weekend-long airsoft-and-LARP game in Dundalk, Co. Louth, just on the far side of the border. It's 27 hours long, with the option to sleep in-game, retire to the safe zone, or just stay awake and gaming the entire time, if you can. The setting is a fictional Central American country in civil war, and there are a wide variety of different groups you can choose to play as, from pure combat to pure LARP and all sorts of mixtures in-between.

The guy in charge of the LARP side of things has had plenty of experience with this kind of thing, from convention games to international rubber-sword events and airsoft\LARP mixes, and has got great plans for making the role-playing aspect of the game a den of intrigue. He'll work with you to create a character that'll fit and have plenty to do, whether you want full autonomy to make your own character or would rather have one handed to you.

If you've never tried LARPing in this type of warzone environment before, I can tell you, it's a very intense experience. The stakes are high and your mind will be racing to play situations to your advantage so you can not only survive but come out ahead. If you've got the time and interest, a few of us did a podcast recounting our experiences LARPing at the world's biggest airsoft game, Berget, in Sweden last year.

Part 1
Part 2

Anyway, tickets are 45 eurobucks if booked before the end of May, the game's on the 18th and 19th of June, and of course as well as the LARP stuff there's plenty of airsoft action for those that way inclined. Please have a look at the event website:

http://troops-in-contact.com/

and if you've any questions please ask on the thread or drop me a personal message here!

Thanks, hope to see some of y'all there, and I'll close out with our ridiculously action-packed poster.

Sounds very cool, quick question, is equipment like weapons and safety gear on offer or do you have to supply your own?

The only safety equipment needed is airsoft-rated eye protection, and while there's some available to borrow on the site it'd probably be best to get your own (in case of shortages, and for comfort reasons), which you should be able to do at an airsoft shop for around a tenner - check Toy Soldiers Airsoft which is somewhere in the Belfast area, Phil there is a good guy and will be able to sort you out if you explain what it's about. Do make sure it's from an airsoft shop though, ski goggles and carpentry glasses aren't designed the same way and the airsoft site might not allow you to use them.

Because the game takes place in a forest, boots with decent treads and good ankle support are highly recommended too, if that counts as safety gear.

Guns aren't provided, I'm afraid that's something you'd need to source yourself. However, if you're there to play a LARP character, you don't need to be armed - indeed it can help you win peoples' trust if you're demonstrably not packing heat. At the same time, if you do want to carry a gun, the LARPers certainly have that option either.

this sounds fantastic, much better than the modest story games we ran a couple of times at SG1. Hope it goes well, sadly i doubt ill get.

though for our chaps i do have a few :-) airsoft guns which i never got round to selling, im sure a rental for the weekend could be sorted ;-)

prob have one or two airsoft masks left and i know i have combat kits and webbing tucked away for a civil war lol

Toy Soldiers Airsoft is on the Sandown Road (East Belfast) at the Ballyhackamore end. Just off the Upper Newtownards Road end. Coincidentally I called in 2 weeks ago looking for "Toy Soldiers" aka model figurines and found they don't have any. But lots of lovely looking kit and guns. Not really my bag but was certainly impressed (and a little bit tempted) by all the shiny stuff.

There's a place in Ballymena, where Bargin Bottles used to be, next to Diamonds newsagents opposite the co-op.

I forgotten the name.

Its called the great outdoors,
there is also a dedicated airsoft shop on the bog road in ballymena. However I will advise anyone thinking of going to buy a wepaon for the shoot that certain rules and restrictions apply, making it hard to just go out and buy a BB gun these days. For those interested look up the VCRA act or pm me and I can give you a brief idea of what is required.

On the other hand big airsoft shoots are great craic and the scene on this island is fantastic and freindly so good luck shane may even look and see if ican get a pass from the commandant for it Wink

I forgot about the Violent Crimes Registration Act. My understanding of it is that to buy an airsoft gun, you need to be able to prove you're an airsofter, otherwise it has to be luminous colours. Proving you're an airsofter is of course a complicated procedure involving letters from sites you attend or stamps on an official association card or something.

However, I think it just applies to buying - owning is okay, as far as I'm aware (I've looked into it a bit because I'm moving to England in a few months and have a big load of pretend machine-guns tagging along), once you're not a spa with it. So technically you could nip to one of the two shops in Dundalk to get one, because the rules are different on this side of the border. The exchange rate or whatever is going to make it more expensive though.

Anyway, I've just remembered I have a bit of spare kit, and am munificent. I have a couple of pairs of high-quality goggles, a couple of pairs of low-quality-but-do-the-job goggles, and a few crappy single-shot pistols I'd be willing to loan if it'd get some of you lovely people down for the game. Gimme a shout if you're interested.

I'd just like to remind about this event; ticket prices go up to 55 euros after the end of May, so it's a little cheaper to book before then, at 45 euros!

Thanks guys. Wink
