[ARKHAM EVENT] WW2 MINI-CON - 10am-5pm Saturday 20th November 2010
So...for Arkham's 2nd mini-con we've decided on a World War 2 theme day, to be held on Nov 20th.
We're hoping to attract some media to this event so volunteers to run their favourite WW2 flavoured games on the day would be welcomed with open arms. Please post your comments and suggestions below, and of course if you're willing to be moved to the 'front line' and take charge of a game! *(Why is there no emoticon for a salute!?)*
Events at the WW2 Minicon...
[Memoir '44 - Disaster At Dieppe]
(An Overlord Scenario and Battlemap)
GM - Gary Gardner (twyearling)
2 to 6 players
A raid on the German-occupied coastal town of Dieppe, Operation Jubilee was intended to demonstrate the Allies capacity to seize and hold a major port for a short while. The Canadians sent in just couldn't imagine how short their stay would be...
The landing beach was a mile long, with headlands at both ends and barbed wire across its entire length. At first, enemy fire was light, letting the landing troops - Essex Scottish Regiment on Red Beach and the Hamilton Light Infantry on White Beach - make it through a first row of wire and toward the sea wall with only minor losses. But tanks from the 14th Canadian Tank Battalion had not arrived ahead of the infantry landings as planned; and once landed, they could not get any traction on the loose beach pebbles. To make things worse, the men of the Royal Regiment landing on Blue Beach near Puys arrived late. They were pinned on the beach, unable to move west and take the eastern headlands before the main assault. The Germans, now on full alert, swept the exposed Canadian forces. Control of the Casino and surrounding pillboxes sea-sawed back and forth but to no avail. Four hours after landing, the Allied commanders were forced to call a retreat, leaving almost 60% of the men who'd landed killed, wounded or captured! The lessons learned from this debacle were painful, but were of considerable help in preparations for the landings in Normandy, two years later.
[Conflict of Heroes]
GM - Tim Snoddy
[Wings of War - Battle of Britain]
GM - John Kell
2-6 players
[WWII RPG - name TBC]
GM - Dave 'the machine' Hayes (inv_spleen)

It has come to our attention that there may have been a leak of Overlord to the enemy through an unconventional method. It is Bodyguard's wish that you would therefore put together a commando raid on Akershus Castle, Norway within the next two days. I know this does not give you much time, but if we do not act now Overlord my be compromised and we both know what that will mean. This sight holds a very advanced SS listening station that has taken the Nazi's 3 years to build and will not be rebuilt before Overlord begins. You must do all within your power to take it out and make sure Obersturmbannführer Hinkle does not survive the raid.
You are given full access to all allied personnel and resource for this mission and I can only wish you the best of luck.
Memorandum Rated ULTRA TOP SECRET
[Flames of War]
GMs - Karl (kwi) & Stephen (Sargent Slaughter)
Wittmans Wild Ride
Michael Wittman rampaged around Villiers-Bocage single handedly in his Tiger tank, taking British forces unaware as they made a 'brew'.
Can you recreate the carnage of Wittman's 'Wild ride', 10 turns of utter mayham, and whoever does the most damage before the end of the day wins a prize (TBC.) Fast play single player action. (3-4 games an hour)
The Germans are coming!
France 1939 and the German Blitzkrieg is heading towards the river Meuse, can the armour of the French stem the tide of German armour heading their way or will the German warmachine recreate history?
2 -8 player Armour clash
[Secrets of the Third Reich]
GM - Trevor Houston (tyzer)
Campaign announcement and rules available here;

[Dad's Army skirmish games]
GM - Andy Frazer (beer ogre)
The Invasion of Warmington-On-Sea: A skirmish game using Ganesha games adapted rules.

I'll be up for running Flames of War, give me an excuse to get 2 armies finally finished, may even get a smaller all armoured scenario going as well.

That is still being planned, I have 2 1500 MW armies that'll be finished by then. I may have 2 EW armoured armies available as well for a 'Germans crossing the Meuse' scenario. If I pull my finger out I may be able to field an Amrerican airbourne assault, though a garrison rather than combat force would be good to face with that.Sargent Slaughter wrote:What is being planned for FOW and what figures are going to be needed for the day,
Or even a commando raid if anyone has a commando force painted.
Would love to do a Stalingrad table but if I plowed that much effort into terrain building I would be hung by my nads, plus the amount of infantry to paint would be imense. Maybe next year?

I have a strelk army sitting in boxes, and my MW germans are based on an infantry division that marched into that famous city.

No armour would be ideal, I feel a dock raid happening.

Seems to me there could be enough forces already to get a scenario of the ground, funny how i always imagined a raid on a port/dock prehaps against a german panzergrenidier force.
