Secrets of the Third Reich
It's great to see Secrets of the Third Reich stuff at Arkham although where's the Mechs? I had to be strong and not buy anything :D
For anyone interested in the game and/or reading the rules, then you should head over to the West Wind forums where you can download some really useful documents including a very good reference sheet, a templtes and counter set and a handy Army Builder data file (although it is still a work in progress).

Of course it's only handy if you have Army Builder, whats wrong with, paper, pencil and a margin for adding up points?
(Apart from illegible lists and some dodgy arithmatic.)

I personally find the cost and bugs V's usefulness to be not worth while. I get a better 'feel' for an army when using pen and paper.

Re: Secrets of the Third Reich
Germans can be collected cheaply using the warlord games plastics, twenty quid (less i think with discount) gets you a platoon pretty much, add in Westwind wierdness to taste, I might sit down and work out a 55rp list and see how much it costs actually...

Re: Secrets of the Third Reich
I would suggest you think about what type of army of want, my observations are that the Russians are a close range army with lots of SMG's, close combat monsters and currently only one mech, whereas the Americans have a wide range of weaponry and mechs but no close combat monsters apart from the Sentinels.Revic wrote:im tempted by either USA and soviets to collect in SOTR, cant decide really
Not sure if this helps or not
Re: Secrets of the Third Reich
But soviets look cooler ! You should also check out doomsday to see other units and lists .
Anyone see warlords plastic brits? I must say I am extremely tempted to start a new platoon but I feel guilty cos I have so much gw stuff. But warlord deserve some love to!
Could also use them for normal ww2 and just have the wierdness in mechs and vampires etc.

Re: Secrets of the Third Reich
Ahhh, the great debate, personally i think i will stick with my germans, they have to many cool occult figures to pass up, and drop troops, cant wait to get my hands on some of those guys, they should work in for supprise assassinations, just dropping in and spraying the target with assault rifles and pack LMG's, what more could you ask for (SOTR Terminators).
Still, i have a full platoon of british to start painting (when i'm in the mood)

i may have to go for the USA then as the craziness (vampires, etc) of SOTR doesnt appeal, already bought Vasily Zaytsev, though thats just cause he is awesome.

Re: Secrets of the Third Reich
apparently you can use the Allied APE models from incursion in SOTR.
Would anyone be able to tell me what the rules are for them, cost etc?
It is in the 1949 Doomsday book which i don't have, yet.
Cheers
Mike

Re: Secrets of the Third Reich
Can't really post the rules, as that would have me probably breaking several Arkham forum rules.
What I can say is that a 5 man APE team is 7RP and can be a support choice for a US force or as part of an APE platoon. Also available is Slugger Murphy for 4RP.

Re: Secrets of the Third Reich
If you think those are good check out the soviet guards on the westwind forums :D
They look fantastic, pity about the price but then again when has that every stopped me. Got a fifty quid order of siberians coming in, I am also getting the Nayk that has been sitting on that shelf for ages. Figured if I am in for a penny in for a pound...dread to think of the amount of crap I have bought due to arkham...phil must be doing something right.
Least I am painting more tho to try and justify the expense
